Senior Advocate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya brought attention to alleged remarks made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee before the Calcutta High Court on Thursday. He urged the court to take suo moto cognizance of Banerjee's comments calling High Court judges biased, and stating that the 'HC had been purchased.'

The remarks followed a High Court ruling invalidating nearly 24,000 teaching and non-teaching jobs implicated in the cash-for-jobs scam.

Bhattacharya presented newspaper clippings from regional and English newspapers covering the CM's statements. He argued that since the Attorney General would not grant consent to proceed against the CM, the court needed to take suo moto cognizance.

In response, the division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya directed for affidavits to be filed and listed the matter for hearing.
